Ball Passes (Hand to Feet)
Equipment: 9" Pilates Ball
Difficulty: Intermediate to Advanced
Target Muscles: Entire core, hip flexors, shoulders
How to Perform Ball Passes
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Lie flat on your back with arms extended overhead, holding the Pilates ball
- Keep your legs straight and together on the floor
- Simultaneously lift your arms and legs toward the ceiling
- Transfer the ball from your hands to between your feet/ankles
- Lower your arms and legs back down to the floor (ball now between feet)
- Lift back up and pass the ball from your feet back to your hands
- Continue passing the ball back and forth
Recommended Sets & Reps:
- Beginners: 2 sets of 8-10 passes
- Intermediate: 3 sets of 12-15 passes
- Advanced: 4 sets of 20 passes
Form Tips:
- Keep your lower back pressed to the floor throughout
- Move with control - don't use momentum
- Engage your core before each lift
- Keep arms and legs as straight as possible
- Breathe steadily - exhale on the lift, inhale on the lower
Common Mistakes to Avoid:
- Arching your lower back off the floor
- Bending knees or arms excessively
- Rushing through the movement
- Dropping limbs too quickly
- Holding your breath
Modifications:
- Easier: Bend knees slightly or don't lower limbs all the way to the floor
- Harder: Pause for 2-3 seconds at the top of each pass
